Downtown Escondido offers numerous restaurants, cafes and galleries. Every Friday evening from April through September, locals enjoy Cruisin Grand, where they can see hot rods and historic cares.
Supplementing the many art galleries is the newly opened Mingei Museum and the California Center for the Arts. Grape Day Park features theaters, a visual arts museum, educational complex and conference center, as well as the Escondido Children's Museum and the Escondido History Center.
Many tourists come to Escondido to visit the San Diego Wild Animal Park, which shares some of the fame from its sister par, the San Diego Zoo. The area also features three large lakes; Dixon Lake, Lake Wohlford and Lake Hodges.

San Marcos is known for having some of the best restaurants in North County. Old California Restaurant Row (www.oldcalrestaurantrow.com) features a large selection of restaurants with a selection of cuisines, such as Chin's Maui Bistro, Fish House Veracruz and Market Street Café & French Bakery.
